Jez Nelson

CEO, Somethin’ Else

Jez Nelson is the CEO of Somethin’ Else. A co-founder of the company, for 15 years he has led Somethin’ Else’s editorial direction.

Jez began his career as a pirate DJ whilst studying psychology and Human Biology at London University. He went legit in the mid 80s gaining a post grad in Broadcast Journalism and working as a reporter for local radio. In 1990 he became a launch presenter for London’s Jazz FM. In 1991, together with Sonita Alleyne, he founded Somethin’ Else – one of the UK’s first independent radio production companies.
Jez was responsible for building up the company’s radio division – particularly building strong relationships with the BBC. In recent years he has focuses on building the company’s TV division.

As a broadcaster Jez presents Jazz On 3 – a weekly BBC Radio 3 programme produced by Somethin’ Else. He has also presented for BBC Radio 4, 5, World Service, Kiss FM and Jazz FM. He has also been a TV presenter – co hosting Tomorrow’s World for 3 years.

Jez is a committee member of the UK Radio Academy – the industry body that also made him it’s youngest ever fellow in 2000.
