Patrick Towell

Chief Executive, Golant Media Ventures

Patrick runs Golant Media Ventures, a company that creates new convergent media enterprises, working on projects from IPTV for Encyclopaedia Britannica, interactive versions of The Tempest and promoting Brazilian Film through social media.

Patrick is a member of the UNESCO UK National Commission’s Communications & Information Committee. He chairs its Information Society Working Group, addressing societal and cultural impact of the Internet and other digital technologies. He programmed and chaired the UNESCO/NESTA UK Public Service Media 2009 conference.

He hosted the 2007 London International Standards e-learning plenary sponsored by both the UK and US governments. He co-chaired a conference on the digital and consequent linguistic divides in developing countries at the 2006 UN World Summit on the Information Society in Tunis.

He provides strategic and policy advice and consults on communications and innovation – including advising South West Screen on an International Finishing School for film, television and digital media graduates and the government on digital media for parents.

Formerly, Patrick was Chief Executive of Simulacra Media which advised on and produced groundbreaking digital cultural and educational projects including the £38mn Local Heritage Initiative, the £500mn Curriculum Online programme, the multiple BAFTA-winning Stagework website for the National Theatre and counted Microsoft, the BBC and Channel 4 amongst its clients.
