Jon Gisby (born May 1968) was appointed to the newly created role of Channel 4 Director of New Media and Technology in November 2007.
He is an executive member of the Channel 4 board and sits on the Group’s executive management team.
Jon has been tasked with expanding Channel 4’s presence in online digital media and growing revenue from this source. Channel 4 is in the process of upgrading channel4.com to significantly increase the amount of video content available to users, in support of the leadership position it has built in video-on-demand via PC through the launch of 4oD in December 2006.
He will also be responsible for overseeing Channel 4’s new £50 million public service digital media fund, Four Innovation for the Public (4IP), which will be launching with a range of partners later this year. He also sits on the board of ‘Project Kangaroo’, the BBC Worldwide, ITV and Channel 4 commercial joint venture to launch an on-demand content service.
Prior to joining Channel 4, Jon was Vice President of Media and Communications for Yahoo! Europe and in that role, had had oversight of the company’s regional content sites since 2005. He was Managing Director for Yahoo! in the UK & Ireland between 2004 and 2006.
Previously he worked for Freeserve between 1999 and 2004 in a variety of senior management roles including Managing Director, Portals and Director of Strategy and New Business.
Before specialising in online media, he worked as an analyst and in a variety of consultancy roles including a stint in the BBC’s Corporate Strategy team.
